Like a dream recalled – the pieces became a whole. Light, time, space, color, water, and the jungle, merged. A place imagined and then found.
February 9 - 14, 2022
Join us on a Panga boat and a hike up a hillside (your luggage will go by mule) to arrive at a place imagined, then found. A place handmade by an intrepid architect, surrounded by jungle, overlooking the ocean. Well off the beaten path, carved out of the lush Mexican jungle, a direction rather than an end-point.

Rebel Human retreats are known for the transformation they spark. The curated daily program is built to bring about a new psychological and physiological state so the seeds planted will take root and grow, nourishing a new way of being in the world. Rebuilding our strength, resilience, and connection to self takes some work. While you will have time on this retreat for massages, resting in a hilltop hammock overlooking the ocean, and sitting at the pool, you will also be guided through meditation, yogic practices, and exploration exercises that pierce the veneer of performative wellness, and lead to lasting change.
Our hilltop retreat on Bahia de Banderas coast in Yelapa, Mexico will offer the opportunity for us to rebuild ourselves in an environment that is so different, it won’t let us inhabit old ways of being. Rebuilding happens through deep self work on your own, but also through community, shared experiences, deep bonding, and sharing our wounds. It happens when we get a little uncomfortable, try new adventures, test our strength, and celebrate our little victories together.
On this retreat YOU get to decide what needs to be rebuilt. Rebuilding oneself isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey and even your teacher can’t tell you exactly what needs to be addressed. On this retreat you will learn the tools to carefully discern what needs attention. These tools will allow you to build deep awareness, connection to your inner wisdom, and intuition, so you can make choices from a place of equanimity. These are powerful tools to take with you into your life after the retreat.
Restoration will be aided by expert guidance and a carefully developed program that integrates yogic practices—pranayama, mantra, chanting, Yin Yoga—with our signature mindful cardio class 20:20:20, sound healing, meditation, neurocoaching, personal development, exploration exercises, and visualization. You will have support as you rebuild your physical and mental strength and be held in community as you explore new experiences in nature.
You will be supported in these practices by your teacher, but also by participating in a “screen cleanse.” You will be given the permission to take a full break from texting, emailing, online shopping, and social media so you can experience yourself and the world around you without these distractions.
The retreat is limited to 15 women. This small-group setting allows us to cultivate a culture where we feel safe and supported to connect and share. It also allows for personalized attention from your teachers, Jenny Arrington and Tait Medina, Ph.D.
This retreat is open to all levels. You do not need experience in meditation or in yoga to benefit. Our unique and personalized programming (which includes a preparatory call) allows us to meet the needs of beginning and advanced practitioners alike. However, this retreat will require you to do some preparatory physical training so that we can fully explore our hillside sanctuary on the Bay of Banderas. We will provide a training schedule of videos to help prepare you.
15 miles southwest of Puerto Vallarta, secluded in a remote cove between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre mountains, Yelapa is an ideal getaway for any intrepid adventurer. Its remote location makes it ideal for those looking to feel far away from the hustle of the city, and its picturesque jungle landscapes and cascading waterfalls beckon exploration.
The name “Yelapa” is believed to derive from an indigenous word meaning “where two rivers meet the sea.” This seaside town is a quiet fishing village that makes up one of the lushest bioregions in the world.
The community was founded by four families about 150 years ago. Today, it remains one of the few communities that’s still owned, inhabited, and maintained by the original residents and their descendants. Only about 1,500 people call Yelapa home, and it remains unsullied.
There are no roads, no cars, and no ATMs, and infrastructure is minimal. It’s like a beach community frozen in time, and that’s exactly what makes it so appealing.
A boutique sanctuary carved out of the lush Mexican jungle surrounded by waterfalls and breathtaking views will be our home for this retreat. Reachable only by boat and well off the beaten bath, this "handmade hotel" consists of 9 houses, each unique in the story it tells.
Each house features a large private patio with a magnificent view and a full bathroom. All beds have over-sized mosquito nets. Some houses are almost entirely open air and others have a/c. Some can be shared.
You will have daily house-keeping, morning coffee delivered to your front porch, access to a cliff-side swimming pool, small library, and jungle spa.
We also have a dedicated chef and staff to attend to your every need.
Our meals are prepared for us onsite by a celebrated chef. All meals are fully vegan so there will be no fish, dairy, or meat.
There will be no alcoholic beverages, but coffee and fresh muffins will be brought to your front porch every morning.
Prep Call: There will be one hour-long group zoom call in the two weeks prior to the retreat. During this call you will learn about the neurobiological effects of meditation, a little more about daily schedule, and have the opportunity to get to know each other. This call will help us develop a shared vocabulary so that we can be ready to engage in restorative work together when we at our hillside retreat.
Physical Prep: This retreat will require you to do some preparatory physical training so that we can really take it to the next level while on retreat in Yelapa. We will be teaching a workout routine in October in Panama to get you started. If you are not at retreat in October, we will provide a training schedule of videos to help prepare you.
Ongoing support and accountability when you return home is key to integrating your new awareness, practices, and perspective into your everyday life. To that end, each participant receives one 30-minute private call with Jenny in the weeks following the retreat.
We also encourage you to join one of our class series to help you hone your practice and cultivate a deeper connection to the process. To support this you will receive a promo code that can be used for 10% off one of our class series when you register for the retreat. If you are not in the Chicago-land area this can be used toward a private neurocoaching session with Jenny via zoom.
