Agenda

The retreat is limited to 15 women. This small-group setting allows us to cultivate a culture where we feel safe and supported to connect and share. It also allows for personalized attention from your teachers, Jenny Arrington and Tait Medina.

Rebel Human retreats are known for the transformation they spark. The curated daily program is built to bring about a new psychological and physiological state so the seeds planted will take root and grow, nourishing a new way of being in the world. Rebuilding our strength, resilience, and connection to self takes some work. While you will have time on this retreat for massages, resting in a hilltop hammock overlooking the ocean, and sitting at the pool, you will also be guided through meditation, yogic practices, and exploration exercises that pierce the veneer of performative wellness, and lead to lasting change.

Our hilltop retreat on Bahia de Banderas coast in Yelapa, Mexico will offer the opportunity for us to rebuild ourselves in an environment that is so different, it won’t let us inhabit old ways of being. Rebuilding happens through deep self work on your own, but also through community, shared experiences, deep bonding, and sharing our wounds. It happens when we get a little uncomfortable, try new adventures, test our strength, and celebrate our little victories together.

On this retreat YOU get to decide what needs to be rebuilt. Rebuilding oneself isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey and even your teacher can’t tell you exactly what needs to be addressed. On this retreat you will learn the tools to carefully discern what needs attention. These tools will allow you to build deep awareness, connection to your inner wisdom, and intuition, so you can make choices from a place of equanimity. These are powerful tools to take with you into your life after the retreat.

Restoration will be aided by expert guidance and a carefully developed program that integrates yogic practices—pranayama, mantra, chanting, Yin Yoga—with sound healing, meditation, neurocoaching, personal development, exploration exercises, and visualization. You will have support as you rebuild your physical and mental strength and be held in community as you explore new experiences in nature.

You will be supported in these practices by your teacher, but also by participating in a “screen cleanse.” You will be given the permission to take a full break from texting, emailing, online shopping, and social media so you can experience yourself and the world around you without these distractions.

This retreat is open to all levels. You do not need experience in meditation or in yoga to benefit. Our unique and personalized programming (which includes a preparatory call) allows us to meet the needs of beginning and advanced practitioners alike.

Here is a sample of what a day on retreat looks like:

  • 7:30 - Rebel Human Way class: a curated movement and meditation class that draws on the most powerful practices from several lineages to balance the body, build resilience, overwrite self-limiting fear thoughts, and get you into a deep meditative state to unlock your creativity and deep wisdom

  • 9:00 - Breakfast on the hillside overlooking the Bay of Banderas

  • 10:30 - Group exercise: deep dive using neurocoaching, exploration exercises, and visualization

  • 12:30 - Lunch overlooking the Bay, followed by free time for quiet reflection, walk, pool, massage, private with Jenny

  • 2:30 - Unique group excursion (waterfall hike, whale watching by private boat, vegetarian cooking class in local cuisine)

  • 5:30 - Free time for quiet reflection, walk, pool, massage, private with Jenny.

  • 7:00 - Dinner overlooking the Bay

  • 8:00 - Bonfire/group exploration activity/ceremony

  • 9:00 - Bedtime Sound Bath

Location

15 miles southwest of Puerto Vallarta, secluded in a remote cove between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre mountains, Yelapa is an ideal getaway for any intrepid adventurer. Its remote location makes it ideal for those looking to feel far away from the hustle of the city, and its picturesque jungle landscapes and cascading waterfalls beckon exploration.

The name “Yelapa” is believed to derive from an indigenous word meaning “where two rivers meet the sea.” This seaside town is a quiet fishing village that makes up one of the lushest bioregions in the world.

The community was founded by four families about 150 years ago. Today, it remains one of the few communities that’s still owned, inhabited, and maintained by the descendants of the original residents. Only about 1,500 people call Yelapa home, and it remains unsullied.

Preparation

Prep Call: There will be one hour-long group zoom call in the two weeks prior to the retreat. During this call you will learn about the neurobiological effects of meditation, a little more about daily schedule, and have the opportunity to get to know each other. This call will help us develop a shared vocabulary so that we can be ready to engage in restorative work together when we at our hillside retreat.

Physical Prep: This retreat will require you to do some preparatory mental and physical training so that we can hit the ground running. We will send access to an online web-portal with classes and other preparatory material.

Follow-up support

Ongoing support and accountability when you return home is key to integrating  your new awareness, practices, and perspective into your everyday life. To that end, each participant receives one 30-minute private call with Jenny  in the weeks following the retreat.

We also encourage you to join one of our class series to help you hone your practice and cultivate a deeper connection to the process. To support this you will receive a promo code that can be used for 10% off one of our class series when you register for the retreat. If you are not in the Chicago-land area this can be used toward a private neurocoaching session with Jenny via zoom.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Time seemed to stand still at the Rebel Human Retreat. Nurtured and nourished by the staff, cuisine and grounds, I embarked on a journey of introspection and healing with a small group of amazing, diverse women. A willingness to become vulnerable and trust in Jenny and Tait’s expertise resulted in rewards I could not have imagined. The spiritual and emotional exercises we worked through encouraged me to look at my past and review the negative thought patterns, habits and baggage that I perpetuate in my daily life. Through learning to be comfortable in the uncomfortable, I was able to see that I can do hard things.

Together, we flew in small planes, we hiked, we swam at the base of waterfalls, we rode horses, we became at peace with the natural surroundings and its inhabitants, and we proved to ourselves that despite a bit of unease, we were able to use our breath and tap into a strong inner core of peace and tranquility. As we learned, friction and stress are the building blocks of strength and resilience.

I am strong and resilient and capable of releasing a victim mentality and embracing positive energy. My mind is clearer. My dreams are sharper, more vivid and pouring out of me. I plan to attend as many Rebel Human retreats as I can in the coming years and very much look forward to fostering life long friendships with these incredible women and the many participants yet to come.
